This project was part of the minor Interactive Environments. The goal of the minor was to design a life scale prototype for a client. With a small group of students we have conducted user research, interaction studies and deepend our knowledge of coding, electronics and prototyping.

Kaizen is designed to provide office employees with a safe space where they can take a break, unplug and relax. During the stage of the user research we learned that many employees, within our context, felt uncomfortable taking breaks. This was due to social pressure employees experienced to continue working even when they felt stressed out and overwhelmed.

Kaizen secludes the employee from their environment, offering them a safe break room where they can catch their breath.

Within the spiral shaped room users find multiple interactive panels that they can explore with their movements. The panels react by translating the movements into mesmerizing visual effects.

The pace of the light as well as the colors help to calm down the nervous system of the user while the interaction itself allows for a moment of meaningful connection with one’s body.

After a couple of minutes employees feel recharged and ready to continue with their tasks.
