Velder, one of the biggest chain partners in cheese and dairy production, approached the design team with a request for a conceptual design of the cheese store of the future. The vision included high-tech applications and interactive elements to surprise and engage customers. My role within the project was to design an interactive cheese platter and integrate it with other functions of Velder.

Approach

The design of the interactive cheese platter is based on the team's preliminary research, during which user personas and possible user journeys were created. Using this research, I created an interactive prototype to showcase potential applications of interactive technology within the retail space.

Technologically, the concept is based on computer vision and projection mapping on the platter surface. Image recognition identifies which cheeses have been placed on the surface and projects relevant information accordingly. This is supported by an artificial intelligence algorithm that creates the best pairings with the options selected by the user, allowing for a personalized experience for each customer rather than pre-made cheese platter menus.

AR Models

Apart from the conceptual design and interactive prototyping, I also contributed to the project by researching applications of AR in spatial design. I investigated various AR tools, examining their strengths and shortcomings, and created a workflow for showcasing design elements in context using AR applications.
